The Fiscal Cliff

President Obama and Speaker of the House, John Boehner, met again today to discuss the fiscal cliff.
But, there still there is no progress. Boehner says the government must reduce spending. some interesting statistics: If taxes would be raised on the "rich" as defined by the Obama administration, it would only account for 8 days of government spending and less than 1% of America's $16 trillion debt (stats courtesy of Jesse Watters). Clearly, raising taxes won't do the trick. Democrats and Republicans need to put party politics aside and lead this country!

Check Out This Poll

A poll by NBC/Wall Street Journal asked, Who would be to blame if the problem of the fiscal cliff is not solved?
19% said Democrats would be to blame
24% said Republicans would be to blame
56% said Both would be equally to blame
What do you think?

Susan Rice Will Not Be the Next Secretary of State

With all the controversy over the Benghazi attack and great Republican opposition to Susan Rice as a potential replacement for Clinton, Rice decided to take herself out of the game. She said she would not accept nomination for Secretary of State. So, who else might replace Clinton? Remember Senator John Kerry (D-MA)? He ran against George W. Bush in the Presidential election of 2000. Right now, it seems he is Obama's next choice.

Egypt: From Mubarak to Morsi to ...?

It's been almost two years since Egypt has rebelled against and gotten rid of their leader, Hosni Mubarak. Protesters wanted a better government and some Westerners were hopeful that Egypt would become a true democracy. Muhammad Morsi was elected as President of Egypt back in the summer of 2012. Sounds like the beginnings of a democracy. But, recently, Morsi has made it clear that he wants a lot more power than the typical president is supposed to have and Egyptians are back on the streets protesting.

UN General Assembly Votes in Favor of Palestinian Statehood

"The U.N. General Assembly voted Thursday in favor of Palestinian statehood, after the Palestinians asked it to recognize a non-member state of Palestine in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem, and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
The resolution upgrading the Palestinians' status to a nonmember observer state at the United Nations was approved by a more than two-thirds majority of the 193-member world body -- a vote of 138 to 9, with the U.S. and Israel among those who opposed. There were 41 abstentions.
Real independence, however, remains an elusive dream until the Palestinians negotiate a peace deal with the Israelis, who warned that the General Assembly action will only delay a lasting solution. Israel still controls the West Bank, east Jerusalem and access to Gaza, and it accused the Palestinians of bypassing negotiations with the campaign to upgrade their U.N. status." -Fox News

Who will replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State?

Hillary Clinton will be resigning from her post as Secretary of State. Who will replace her? There is a lot of buzz about Susan Rice, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Some think that Obama will make her Secretary of State. However, many people, Republicans especially, are against this because of her report on the Benghazi attack. She said it happened because of anti-Islam video that an American put out. Obama defended her and people are wondering, "Will Obama go ahead and make Rice Secretary of State even though so many are opposed to this?"
