A Trip to...Mars?

The Mars One Project is accepting applications for a one-way trip to Mars. No experience as an astronaut necessary. If you are at least 18 years old, about 5"2 and have 20/20 vision, you may be eligible. Those chosen will be trained for several years before the big move.

Earthquake in China

This past weekend, the Chinese province of Sichuan, was struck by an earthquake. More than 180 people were killed and over 8,000 have been injured. This was the second time in less than a decade that Sichuan had an earthquake. In 2008, close to 90,000 were killed.

Senate Votes on Gun Laws

This week, the Senate voted on expanding background checks for gun purchases. The bill was not passed, but Obama says this fight for stricter gun control laws is not yet over. This was the first time since Obama's reelection that he lost on an issue he tried to pass in the Senate, which is majority Democrat.

Charles Hagel is being considered as Secretary of Defense in place of Leon Panetta.
John Kerry is most likely to be the next Secretary of State, replacing Hillary Clinton.
John Brennan has been nominated to be CIA director, replacing David Petraeus.
